Today
was a fun day, up into South Dakota, viability was bad, if anything
had dropped we would never had seen it. decided to head
SE in the hopes that there might be a bit of a clearing, had to drive a long way east before we found a river crossing. |
Stopped
just north of Norfolk, NE we stopped to look at the storm, and take
pictures, mistake one, we kept our eyes off the baron, and the storm
came in faster than we though. Chased back east 2 miles, but came to a
T junction, had to take shelter behind a farm building, this was our
first slamming by the rain this time, you couldn't even see the road at
time. it was just like a big washing machine with no where to
go.

After
it had passed us, as you can see from the first picture the line was
470 miles long, so going round it wasn't a choice. So finding a gap
between to cells was our only choice.
that would put us on the east side again. The second picture shows us
going though, there was a small gap, very turbulent, but pretty to see. Once we had got on
the right hand side of the storm we took a SW road, I was videoing out
of the right hand side when you could see a dust storm coming towards
us, I got the window closed just in time, before we got slammed 3 feet
across the road to the other side (I'll try t get a screen grab from my
video camera when I get back). The wind we estimate must have been
60-70, full of dust, twigs, leaves and anything else it could pick up.
Three of our aerials where blown off, one of which got bent. |

| We went east till we got to the I29, then headed south. Found a motel for the night,
just in time for another camera shoot. Here's a couple I got. |
